Slinger, Wis., August 1—Dennis Prunty took advantage of a late caution flag when Lowell Bennett’s engine expired and held off Conrad Morgan in a photo finish to win the Kwik Trip 60 Sunday night at the Slinger Super Speedway.

“I guess Lowell Bennett blew an engine and I ran the outside of the 16 car (Steve Apel) for a long time and then I had to start on the inside of Conrad Morgan, “Prunty said, reviewing the exciting race from victory lane, “man his car has got some horsepower and it was tough holding him off, I drove my ass off.”

Bennett appeared to have the race in hand as the laps wound down, setting sail to a commanding lead over Apel, Prunty, and Morgan when suddenly his car came to an abrupt stop in turn one with eleven laps to go, belching smoke and flames as the power plant appeared to come unglued. With the current track point leader sent to the pits, Apel took over the top spot for the restart, choosing the inside lane to take the green flag with Prunty lined up to his outside. Apel and Prunty headed into turn one nearly even as racing resumed and the two raced door to door for the lead with neither able to gain any advantage while behind them Scott Schoeni and Conrad Morgan staged their own battle for third. Prunty edged ahead slightly on the outside entering turn one on lap 56 while Apel’s car slid loose as he entered the corner and looped around in turn two to produce the caution flag with just four laps remaining, setting up a shoot-out to the finish between Prunty, Morgan, Schoeni, and Egan. Prunty chose the inside lane for the restart but as the field came up to speed, Morgan held his ground on the outside and once again an intense side by side battle for the lead ensued, this time between Prunty and Morgan. The two took the white flag in a dead heat and Prunty held a minute advantage on the exit of turn two, however Morgan shot ahead by a few inches as they entered turn three. Prunty was able to get a bit of a run exiting turn four which was enough to just spurt ahead at the stripe to take the win by less than a car length over Morgan.

Dennis Prunty has made the outside lane work for him at the Slinger Super Speedway in the past. He admits to liking the outside lane, yet would pick the inside lane if given the choice. Two weeks ago at the Slinger Nationals, he was forced to take the outside lane despite thinking he should have had a choice. As much as he likes the outside, the outcome wasn’t to liking, as he spun his tires on a late race restart and had to settle for second.

This time he was forced to the outside lane again, and he made the most of it by passing Lowell Bennett on lap 40 and holding on to capture his fifth feature win of the year in the Harley Davidson 60. The pass for the lead was set up as Conrad Morgan tried to make it three wide coming off of turn four, and Prunty holding his line and winning the drag race into turn one.

(Slinger, WI) Sunday Night July 25th is Rides for Kids in Race Cars Night. All Kids 11 and under will get a FREE ride in a real race car around the high banks of Slinger Speedway. A 60 Lap Super Late Model Feature will headline the racing card. Super Late Models will be joined by: Late Models, Midwest Sportsman, Thunderstock, Slinger Bee’s, Figure 8’s, Westbury Bank Speedway Guest Cars and one on one spectator races. Slinger, Wis., July 18—Jon Reynolds Jr. captured the win in the inaugural Old Wisconsin 88 as the Big 8 Late Model Series debuted at the Slinger Super Speedway Sunday night, turning back a mid-race challenge from James Swan before holding off Jeremy Miller and Rob Braun for the victory.

“This is the best racetrack in the world,” Reynolds told the crowd from victory lane, “I just love coming here and when they did this race with the Big 8 Series, I was just jumping up and down.”

Slinger, Wis., July 11—Lowell Bennett wound up in victory lane following the 31st Annual Miller Lite Nationals Sunday night at the Slinger Super Speedway after on track fireworks following a late race restart dashed the efforts of Kyle Busch and Dennis Prunty, enabling Bennett to capture his fifth Nationals crown, tying Matt Kenseth for the most victories in the prestigious super late model event.

“This was just one awesome night, “ Bennett told the crowd, “Father Dale Grubba was here tonight and he’s got the holy water and I told him to make sure you put that on both valve covers because I need all I can get and I think we were really blessed tonight.”

Slinger, Wis., July 4—Race fans in attendance at the Slinger Super Speedway Sunday night were treated to an All-American type finish as underdog Jeff Holtz drove to his first career super late model feature victory in the Keith’s Marina Firecracker 85 Independence Day Special.

“It took a long time and I’ve raced here for a lot of years but this is great,” Holtz told the crowd from victory lane, “I’m just so happy right now, I’m at a loss for words.”

Mike Egan and Dennis Prunty paced the field to the green flag with Prunty quickly launching to the lead from the outside at the completion of lap one. Egan settled into line in second behind Prunty with Conrad Morgan, Steve Apel, and Jon Reynolds Jr. scrambling for position behind them. By lap ten, Apel was able to work his way to third behind Prunty and Egan while fast qualifier Jeremy Lepak and Holtz maneuvered on the inside lane to advance into the top five. Lepak was on the move in the early laps, first passing Apel for third and then charging around Egan for second place by lap 20. Lepak began to shorten the distance between himself and Prunty for the lead and by lap 35 was planted on Prunty’s rear bumper as they worked lapped traffic. Lepak eased the nose of his car to the edge of Prunty’s bumper exiting turn two on lap 37 and when Prunty defended the position entering turn three, contact between the two sent Prunty’s car looping around in turn four to draw the caution flag. Both Prunty and Lepak were placed at the rear of the field for the restart as Egan inherited the lead over Holtz, Eric Fransen, Apel, and Lowell Bennett. Egan and Holtz battled side by side for the lead as racing resumed before Holtz was able power ahead on the outside off turn two on lap 41 as Fransen and Bennett moved into third and fourth place respectively. Holtz began to pull away out front while Fransen also used the high groove to get around Egan for second as Bennett moved up to challenge Egan along with Reynolds. Fransen began to chip away slightly at Holtz’s lead while Bennett advanced to third by lap 55. Holtz laid down some consistent laps in the late stages and hit his marks as Fransen was unable to move close enough to challenge as the laps wound down. Holtz maintained his lead and drove to a five car length victory over Fransen to score his first career super late model feature win. Bennett finished a strong third while Reynolds and Egan rounded up the top five. Lepak and Prunty continued their earlier battle through the field with Lepak edging Prunty for sixth at the line while David Prunty, Tommy Hromadka, and Randy Schuler completed the top ten finishers.
