Slinger, Wis., May 19—Driving a car sporting the same #97 that the late Alan Kulwicki raced at the Slinger Super Speedway years ago, James Swan edged Rob Braun in a thrilling finish to the 21st annual Alan Kulwicki Memorial super late model feature Sunday night.

(Slinger, WI) May 17, 2013 – With heavy hearts the staff at Slinger Speedway would like to pass on our condolences to the family, friends and fans of Dick Trickle. Our thoughts and prayers are with you. There are many Dick Trickle stories to be told and bench races to be run but those are for another day... today we are comforted knowing Dick is resting peacefully. Gods speed Dick!

In the coming days we will be making arrangements to honor Dick at this year’s Slinger Nationals, an event he suggested Wayne Erickson create back in 1980. The Slinger Nationals turned into a mid week classic that allowed barnstorming racers an opportunity to compete without missing their weekly tracks events. Dick Trickle will be missed by many, but Slinger Speedway will always remember him.

By Dan Margetta - Slinger, Wis., May 5—Tire smoke and sliding race cars shrouded the Start/Finish line as the twin checkered flags swirled to signal the end of the 60-lap super late model feature Sunday afternoon at the Slinger Super Speedway and when the dust settled, Brad Mueller eked out the win by the slimmest of margins over Steve Apel.

Slinger, Wis., Sept. 9— Chris Blawat captured his first super late model feature victory Sunday afternoon at the Slinger Super Speedway in the 80-lap season championship main event while Dennis Prunty edged Steve Apel to win the track championship by a mere ten points.

“This is our first full year in the super late models and we finally got a win, it’s awesome,” Blawat stated from victory lane after passing Dennis Prunty to lead the final 23 laps, “I tried to run as clean as possible and I had a really good run on the outside on that last restart,” “It’s really special to win it like that, passing a potential track champion for the win makes it real special.”

Dennis Prunty and Steve Apel entered the double-point day tied atop the super late model point standings and Apel gained a 20 point advantage early on by setting fast time with a lap of 11.411 seconds while Prunty failed to gain any points after qualifying eleventh. Prunty cut the deficit in half by leading 57 laps of the 80-lap feature to capture the ten point bonus for pacing the most laps before eventually finishing second while Apel charged through the field from his eleventh starting position to finish third, one position behind Prunty. A 20 point difference between the second and third positions in the feature left Prunty with his first Slinger super late model track championship by ten points over Apel.

Al Schill Super Late Model Feature WinnerAl Schill Super Late Model Feature WinnerBy Dan Margetta
Slinger, Wis., Aug 19—67-year old Al Schill held off Steve Apel and Rob Braun in a thrilling three car finish to win the Pomp’s Tire Service 50-lap super late model feature Sunday night at the Slinger Super Speedway.

“How can that be...67 and still winning?” Schill quizzed the crowd from victory lane, “I was getting loose at the end and was sliding around pretty good there.”

The victory didn’t come easy as Schill first had to withstand a strong last lap inside challenge from Braun entering turn one and then had to fend off a fast closing Apel on the high side as they crossed the finish line.

“I hope when I’m 67 I can still walk, let alone win a super late model race here at Slinger,” Apel stated after his close second place finish drew him to within two points of Dennis Prunty in their battle for the track championship, “It was an awesome job by Al Schill and Rob Braun as that was a great race for the fans to see and I hope they enjoyed it.”
