Slinger, Wis., June 26—After taking the lead following a late-race restart, Steve Apel held off a hard charging Travis Dassow to win his second super late model feature of the season in the YP.Com 70 Sunday night at the Slinger Super Speedway.

“That’s what everybody comes out here for…to watch awesome racing,” Apel told the crowd from victory lane, “Travis Dassow ran me clean and he could have moved me easily. I gave him the outside and tried to give him as much room as I could. I didn’t want to block him for the win, he had the outside and just didn’t have enough to get out there to get by.”

“Steve (Apel) did exactly what he had to do,” Dassow said after narrowly missing the win, “He knew I had a good car coming off the bottom and he put the car where he needed to be where I couldn’t get around him. We’ve got to work on the car a little bit, but this thing’s a rocketship.”

“I didn’t want to touch Brad (Mueller), I don’t like racing like that, “Lepak told the crowd after the aggressive battle for the win that saw both drivers leave their marks on each other’s cars, “I wanted to be able to pass him clean, I knew we had the car to do it. I knew if I could get up on his bumper, he was pushing and pushing harder and I knew eventually I could get the run underneath him, I just had to be patient.” “I can’t say I’m real happy with him there at the end, I thought he raced me a lot harder than I raced him, but I think me and Brad are pretty good friends so I think we’ll work this deal out.”

Slinger, Wis., June 12—Dave Feiler passed Steve Apel with 23 laps to go and held on to win his second feature victory of the season in the US Army Reunion Night 70-lap super late model main event Sunday night at the Slinger Super Speedway.

“Steve (Apel) was guarding the bottom a little bit but when he was coming off the corner, he was letting it go all the way to the wall,” Feiler stated describing the winning pass afterwards, “He’s a great racer and I backed off and let him collect himself and he held onto it and I just set him up coming out of turn two.”

“The guys gave me a good car again, it just wasn’t the car to win, “Apel said following his second runner-up finish in as many weeks. “He (Feiler) definitely had the better car tonight.”

Slinger, Wis., June 5—Jeremy Lepak held off a hard charging Steve Apel to win the Ewald Automotive 70-lap super late model main event Sunday night at the Slinger Super Speedway to capture his second feature win of the season.

“That’s why you never give up,” Lepak told the crowd from victory lane after Apel closed to his rear bumper in the final laps, “After we got past the lapped cars I think I used up my right front (tire) running the outside trying to get around those guys and he (Apel) put the hammer down and did the only thing he could which was to get up on my bumper and hope I screwed up, but I think my experience paid off right there and I didn’t panic.”

“I knew Lepak was there and I was watching him in the mirror the whole race, “Apel explained following his runner-up finish, “I knew he had a fast car and once I bobbled a little bit and he got underneath me, I gave him the inside and I figured I would try to save my tires for the end and just jump in behind him and follow him, I’m not sure if I would have beat him but we were there and that’s all that matters. Maybe one of these times I can get him”
