(Slinger, WI) Current NASCAR Cup Series rookie standout, Chase Elliott, has committed to competing in the 37th annual SuperSeal Slinger Nationals, presented by Miller Lite. The 200-lap Nationals is scheduled for Tuesday night, July 19th and offers a rain date of July 20th.
The 2014 NASCAR Xfinity Series Champion, Elliott, is a standout short-track racer, but has never competed on the high-banked Slinger Super Speedway.
“I’m really looking forward to getting up to Slinger,” said Elliott. I haven’t been in a late model all year, which is weird for me because I have raced them, at least some, for the past seven years or so.”
The 20-year-old Dawsonville, Georgia racer is the son of 1988 NASCAR Cup Series champion, Bill Elliott. In 2016, Chase took over the iconic #24 seat on the Cup Series from the retiring Jeff Gordon. Chase Elliott currently sits sixth in the championship standings on the strength of 11 top-10 runs.
Chase Elliott started his racing career by barnstorming short-tracks across America in his super late model. Along the way he posted wins in some of the most prestigious short-track events, including the All-American 400; the World Crown 300; the Winchester 400 as well as the Snowball Derby.
“I’m excited to do some short-track racing,” said Elliott. “Hopefully it won’t take me too long to get adjusted back to it.”
For nearly all of Elliott’s short-track wins, Ricky Turner sat atop the pit box and called the shots as his crew chief. Turner returns to that role for Elliott’s Slinger Nationals run and he’ll be assisted by veteran Midwestern racer, Dan Lensing. Elliott will be behind the wheel of the Lefthander Chassis house-car, a mount that Lensing helped to build.
Chase Elliott joins a burgeoning list of drivers committed to the Slinger Nationals. Former Cup Series champion, and Cambridge, Wisconsin native, Matt Kenseth will race in his home state for the only time in 2016, at the Slinger Nationals. Harrison Burton, the son of former NASCAR great Jeff Burton, will be making his first Slinger Speedway appearance. Joining the early entries are short-track standouts Bubba Pollard, of Georgia, and Florida’s Steve Dorer.
A limited number of Meet and Greet tickets are available and offer an opportunity to meet Elliott, Kenseth, Burton and others in a special pre-race gathering.
Tickets for both the Meet and Greet and the SuperSeal Slinger Nationals presented by Miller Lite are now on sale at the track office or through the tracks website. A special advance sale, adult general admission ticket, in currently available and can be purchased this coming Sunday night, at the speedway office on the main concourse. The advance sale, general admission ticket, allows fans to save five dollars over race-day, general admission prices.
Spectator gates open at noon, on July 19th. The afternoon will feature alternating practice sessions for the super late models, late models and the Midwest Truck Series. Qualifying is slated for 4:00 p.m. with opening ceremonies at 6:30 and racing scheduled for 6:45.
