Slinger Speedway Sunday Tradition Returns for 70th Season

Miller Lite 75 Highlights Afternoon Affair

(Slinger, WI) For the 70th consecutive season the Slinger Super Speedway roars back to life with the Miller Lite Opener, Sunday afternoon, April 30.
Super late models will highlight the afternoon with a 75-lap feature. They’ll be joined by late models, area sportsman, HEROS bees, super beez, and figure 8’s as the high banked quarter mile oval begins its seventh decade of close quarter racing.

For the first time in his career, Chris Blawat carries the bulls eye of defending super late model track champion in to the opener by virtue of his 2016 crown, a points chase that went down to the last few laps of the final night of racing.

“I think we might have surprised a few people last year,” said Blawat of his championship run. “But I don’t think we’re going to sneak up on anybody this year.”

As has been recent tradition, the 2017 season will begin under the afternoon sun. The first two weeks will be contested with afternoon events prior to switching to the traditional Sunday evening affairs, on May 21.

“Early in the season, afternoon racing is great,” said Blawat. “It seems like we usually catch a nice, sunny day and we can get the kids, and the pit crew, home a little earlier.”

Gates open Sunday at noon. Opening ceremonies are set for 2:00 p.m. with racing to follow. The event features a Sunday afternoon, May 7 rain date.
