10 Questions With….Cole Thomas Driver of the #91 Late Model (with a few special guest appearances from his mother, Sherry)

Why did you get into racing?
Cole: My dad [Dave Thomas, formerly #19 Midwest Sportsman at Slinger] raced for as long as I can remember. I used to help him on his car.
Sherry: At the age of 16 I started crewing for a Sprint car team.

What are your future plans? [Cole is 16 years old and home-schooled.] On the track: I want to drive a super late model at Slinger and on dirt.
Off the track: I haven’t even thought about that yet!

What do you like about Slinger Super Speedway?
Cole: It’s where I grew up! The people are all nice here too.
Sherry: Slinger is where my three boys learned their passion for racing! I watched them in the stands, waiting for their turn to buckle in the driver’s seat and now see their eyes of excitement inside their helmets. Cole is the baby of the three; he watched his older brother Greg #39 (RIP 11/15) and Matt #48 do their racing, and now Cole is finally showing them what he can do with his racing. I am very proud of Cole for what he has shown so far in his rookie year! Him being my baby makes this a really special time in our mother-son relationship, and a unique one at that.

How did you pick your car number (#91)?
It’s the reverse of my dad’s car number, and I always wanted to follow in his footsteps.

Who is on your crew?
Cole:My mom-Sherry, Jeff, Ashley, Justin, and Matt
Sherry: (What are your duties on the crew?) I fully fund Team 91, working four jobs to do so. I used to do everything from mechanical tire management to getting the car to the track, and everything in between. I have handed over some of these responsibilities to Cole, and I just manage the process. He has stepped up and I am proud of him for that! We have a great crew that has also taken the burden off of my shoulders on other duties, and we have become a good, tight family.

Who are your sponsors?
Just one – my mom’s business: Dash Accounting (Milwaukee)

Is there anyone else you need to thank?
Definitely my mom! She helps me pursue my dream even though it scares her.

What is your favorite food?
Quesadillas from Applebees

You stated that tonight was your “7th race ever”; what made you begin your racing career in a late model?
I never had any interest in racing go-karts or other cars. I always wanted to race big cars like sportsman or late models. It just seemed more exciting and fun!

Which Slinger driver do you have most respect for?
Cole: Ryan Gutknecht. He’s been like a brother to me, always helping me no matter what. I call and he’s there.
Sherry: I have an abundance of respect for all Slinger drivers.
