Driver of the #4 Sportsman
2021 Sportsman Rookie-of-the-Year
How did you get into racing?
I live in the same town as Rick Corso, and my dad’s been helping Rick since he started racing back in ‘89. I’ve been going to the races with them and my dad decided one day to put me in his car and I liked it a lot so I decided to stick with it.
What do you like about Slinger Super Speedway?
I love how fast it is and I love driving into the banking in the corners. It’s really fast, and I think the banking helps me out a lot with my inexperience – it makes the car turn better.
Who do you need to thank?
Crew: Carol Corso (Rick’s wife), my mom-Joy, my girlfriend-Sophie, my dad-Ken, my cousin Matt Calhoun, and Rick Corso. Sponsors: Adam’s Auto Body, Performance Unlimited, Quality Tire, Sport Decals, and Hiller Farms.
If you could bring one fictional character to life, who would you choose and why?
That’s easy – Ricky Bobby. I just love the mentality he has about always winning. And it’s Will Ferrell, so it’s funny.
What is your favorite racing memory at Slinger?
Probably when I got my first career feature win this year. That was a good one, battling side-by-side with Dale Lecus the whole race.
How did you get your car number (#4)?
Four has always been my favorite number, I wore it all through high school in football. I like the way it looks. And I used to be a big Harvick fan.
What is your favorite food?
It’s kind of a weird one, but I’m going to say meatloaf. A lot of people don’t like meatloaf, but I love it.
If you could have dinner with any three people (alive or passed), who would they be?
Chase Elliott – he’s my favorite NASCAR driver, Michael Jordan – I’m a big fan of his, and my
great-grandma, Lorraine – she passed away a couple of years ago. I kind of missed out on the time she was here, and I’d like to see her again.
What’s next for you in racing?
I definitely want to race full time at Slinger. I blew up my motor up this year, and we’re having a tough time finding one, but I want to come back and run the Sportsman division again.
Which Slinger driver (past or present) do you respect the most?
Bobby Gutknecht. He’s always helping me out at the track, and is always willing to give a hand. He complimented me a lot on my racing this year, and I really respect that.
