Slinger, Wis., June 4—Jesse Bernhagen won the 50-lap Uptown Pro Late Model feature Sunday night at the Slinger Speedway to capture his third main event victory in a row.
“Honestly, we have a lot more to figure out,” Bernhagen said from victory lane, “We have a good race car but we don’t have a good qualifying car so we’ve got to figure out that yet if we really want to compete for a championship. We were missing the entry to the turns and I had the front brakes glowing but that was the hardest I had to work inside the car. It definitely wasn’t easy.”
Berhagen started from the eighth position and was able to work his way around Ryan Gutknecht for the lead using the outside groove. Tyler Schley moved into second place and chased Bernhagen to the checkered flag with Bernhagen scoring the victory over Schley and Gutknecht in second and third respectively. Tom Berens finished fourth and Zach Prunty was fifth.
“We had a good run and ended up on the podium so we’ll take it for everything it’s worth,” Schley stated after his runner-up finish, “running caution-free was a good turn around from last week.”
“This was the first race with our brand new car,” third place Ryan Gutknecht told the crowd, “it’s good to have a decent run and we still have to got find out its quirks because everything is a little different than the other car we had. My guys worked their tails off today and to go from where we started to finishing third I’m proud of them and happy.”
Tyler Hromadka finished sixth followed by Billy Braun and Scott Shambeau in seventh and eighth respectively. Jerry Eckhardt and Zach Greer rounded out the top ten finishers.
Mitchell Delcamp and Ryan Gutknecht were the winners of the Pro Late Model heat races while Tom Berens was the fastest qualifier after turning in a qualifying lap in 11.990 seconds.
Jake Schraufnagel drove to a convincing win in the 35-lap Sportsman feature over Dan Calhoun and Brian Holtz. Paul Wagner finished fourth and Andrew Meyerhofer was fifth. Carl Benn took the checkered flag in sixth followed by Brandon Tackes in seventh and David Teske in eighth. Dean Olla and Simon Seyfert rounded out the top ten.
Sportsman heat races were won by Alex Lopacinski and Dan Calhoun and Paul Wagner topped qualifying with a lap time of 12.628 seconds.
Ricky Gebhard took top honors in the 25-lap Slinger Bee feature as he held off Travis Kreuser and Brandon Mennicke at the checkered flag. Mitchell Strobel crossed the finish line in fourth place while Jason Clope completed a strong race with a fifth place result. Brandon Mennicke and Travis Kreuser each won a Slinger Bees heat race.
Ayrton Brockhouse won the 25-lap Legends feature in dominating style over Jacob Tiegen and Tyler Ledbetter. Dylan Schwanbeck finished fourth and Lincoln Cain finished fifth. Legends heat races were won by Benjamin Massman and Ayrton Brockhouse while Jacob Tiegen was the fastest qualifier with a lap time at 13.264 seconds.
Penn Sauter was the winner of the 15-lap Bandolero feature over Harley Johnson and Jayden Johnson. Sauter a special number “101” to victory lane in honor of super late model competitor and family friend Curt Tillman who passed away unexpectedly on Saturday morning. Derek Meyer finished fourth and Lincoln Johnson took the checkered flag in fifth. Carter Stein and Penn Sauter were the winners of the Bandolero heat races and Sauter completed the clean sweep of the evening by setting fast time with a lap time of 14.275 seconds.
Carl Trapp closed the evening by winning the Spectator One-On-One races in his 1972 Chevy Nova. Trapp defeated Scott Roberts who provided a thrill for the fans by spinning his Corvette wildly on the front straightaway without hitting anything in his runner up effort.
