Slinger, Wis., June 23—Ryan Gutknecht prevailed in a 26-lap side by side battle for the lead with Brady Bill and went on to take the victory in the 50-lap Uptown Motor Cars Late Model feature Sunday night at the Slinger Speedway. The event was part of the All Star Challenge traveling late model series and drew a whopping 45 entries.
“That was a blast running with Brady Bill in the beginning there, that was complete fun.” Gutknecht said from victory lane, “We never touched each other. Hats off to the All Stars and everyone that was involved with this show.”
“This is a little redemption after last week,” Gutknecht continued referring to the last time the late models raced when he took the checkered flag first only to have his car fail post-race inspection,” A lot of people know I got disqualified but don’t know what it was for. It was for weight, we scaled the car back in April and we never scaled it again and I don’t know where the extra weight went but that’s on me. It was a miscue on my part but we’re plenty heavy today, I can tell you that. This is redemption.”
Evan Hassler once again turned in a strong performance as he advanced from deep in the field to finish in second place ahead of Tom Berens and Mike Held in third and fourth place respectively. Penn Sauter finished fifth while Zach Prunty was sixth and Jon Reynolds Jr. was seventh. Ryan Craine finished eighth while Rick Redig-Tackman and Braison Bennett completed the top ten finishers in ninth and tenth respectively.
Michael Guderski won the 20-lap Late Model semi-feature over Mahlon Borntregger, Robbie Rucks, and Nick Beaver as those four drivers advanced into the main event. Rob Braun finished fifth. Cole Howard won the 12-lap consi over Nicholas Lemberger as those two drivers advanced to the semi-feature. Colton Morgan finished third followed by Danny Mann and Franc Beldowski in fourth and fifth. Late Model heat race victories were captured by Noah Eisenhauer, Franc Beldowski, Rob Braun, and Allen Borntregger. Kendrick Kreyer topped the 45-car field in qualifying after turning in a qualifying lap of 12.071 seconds.
Alex Lopacinski pressured early leader Al Stippich for many laps in the 35-lap Sporstman feature before taking command of the race and driving to his first victory of the season. Brady Held took the checkered flag in second place ahead of Tom Elsinger in third Jake Schraufnagel and Kyle Chwala worked their way forward from deep in the field to finish fourth and fifth respectively. Nick Bruley finished sixth and Brian Holtz was seventh while early leader Stippich finished eighth. Sean Eurick and Carl Benn rounded out the top ten finishers. Al Stippich and Brady Held were the winners of the Sportsman heat races and Jake Schraufnagel was the fastest qualifier with a qualifying lap time of 12.721 seconds.
Morgan Zerwinski scored her first feature victory in the Slinger Bees 25-lap main event as she held off the challenges of Travis Kreuser and Rachel Czarapata at the checkered flag. Todd Snow finished fourth and Brandon Mennicke was fifth. Landon Peterson and Brandon Mennicke each won a Slinger Bees heat race while Rachel Czarapata was the fastest qualifier after circling the speedway in 15.204 seconds.
In keeping with the theme of first time winners, Lincoln Cain captured his first feature victory in the 25-lap Legends main event. Dillon Schwanbeck crossed the finish line in second place followed by Andrew Borntreger in third. Jon Kemp ran a strong race and finished fourth ahead of Art Hahn who took the checkered flag in fifth. Rose Borntreger won the first Legends heat race and Ayrton Brockhouse won the second Legends heat. Brockhouse also was the fast qualifier for the evening with a lap time of 13.333 seconds.
Bentley Thompson chased down Cole Kurth in the 15-lap Bandolero feature and made a last lap pass to score the victory. Ace Oldenhoff edged Kurth for second at the finish line, leaving Kurth to finish third. Lincoln Johnson was fourth followed by Mason Obermeyer in fifth. Axel Oldenhoff and Bentley Thompson were the winners of the Bandolero heat races and Oliver Weinkauf was the fastest qualifier after turning in a qualifying lap time of 14.549 seconds.
