Slinger, Wis., July 3—Dave Feiler took the lead on lap 64 and drove to victory over Josh Wallace to capture his third super late model feature triumph of the season Sunday night at the Singer Super Speedway in the caution-free Keith’s Marina 85.
“This place is really incredible, “Feiler exclaimed from victory lane, “We’ve had a car just like this all year long but haven’t had very much luck, but we’ll start with three (wins) and we’ll do one at a time or whatever it takes. We’ve just got to take one race at a time and if we do our homework at home and can beat the luck thing, I think we have a really good piece here.”
Josh Wallace launched to the lead from the pole position in the opening laps as Jon Reynolds Jr., Eric Fransen, Ross Kenseth, and Lowell Bennett lined up behind him. Wallace was able to stretch out his advantage as Reynolds and Fransen raced alongside each other for second with Fransen claiming sole possession of the spot by lap five. Fransen made the outside lane work to grab second place and Bennett followed in his tracks, running the high lane to get by Reynolds for third with Jeremy Lepak moving up to challenge in the outer lane. Lepak also made his way around Reynolds as Kenseth also jumped to the top to make his way forward. Further back, Dave Feiler began his trek toward the front, snapping up two positions by working the low line to get around both Steve Apel and Conrad Morgan.

SLM Action X Jon Reynolds Jr battles #25 Ross KensethWith Wallace still maintaining a healthy lead, Kenseth turned to the inside of Reynolds, moving alongside to challenge for fourth with the two trading paint down the frontstretch before Kenseth grabbed the spot following some more fender rubbing down the back straightaway. Ahead of them, Bennett and Lepak caught Fransen for second and both were able to work their way around for second and third place respectively using the inside groove. Lepak then maneuvered his car to the inside of Bennett a few laps later to take over second place while Wallace continued to enjoy a sizeable lead. While the front four remained stable, Feiler’s march forward was in full swing as he first turned under Kenseth for fifth place and then used a similar move on Fransen a few laps later to take over fourth by lap 39. As Wallace began to catch lapped traffic, Feiler remained the fastest car on the speedway as he caught Bennett for third, diving to the inside to take the position on lap 45. As Feiler was advancing forward, Lepak was closing the gap on Wallace for the lead and by the time the leaders cleared themselves of traffic, all three were nose to tail with Wallace leading Lepak and Feiler. Wallace caught somewhat of a break on lap 48 when Feiler and Lepak began to battle over second, allowing Wallace to ease away slightly. Feiler and Lepak raced door to door for a few laps before Feiler prevailed from the inside. Once into second, Feiler again set out to track down Wallace for the lead as behind them, Kenseth pulled even with Fransen in a fight for fifth. Feiler quickly caught Wallace and turned under him to take the lead as Kenseth bested Fransen for the fifth position. Feiler would not be denied over the closing laps and he smoothly drove to the win while Wallace held off Lepak to claim the runner-up spot. Bennett took the checkered flag in fourth while Kenseth completed the top five with a fifth place result. Eric Fransen finished sixth followed by Jon Reynolds Jr., and Steve Apel while Jeff Holtz and Chris Blawat rounded out the top ten.
Late Model Feature Winner Ryan DeStefanoRob Braun edged Chris Blawat to win the 25-lap super late model semi-feature in a close finish. Mike Graczkowski was third followed by Fred Winn and Jerry Eckhardt. Steve Apel was the winner of the super late model fast dash and Dave Feiler was the fastest qualifier after touring the speedway in 11.422 seconds.
Ryan DeStefano scored his first career Slinger Speedway feature win in the 35-lap late model main event, leading the final nine laps en route to victory.
Chris Blawat and Wayne Freimund led the field to the green flag as the event quickly fell under the caution flag on the first lap when Steve Apel and Alex Prunty both raced for the same spot on the racetrack and the ensuing contact between them sent Apel’s car spinning around. Freimund took command of the race on the restart with Blawat following just in front of Dave McCardle, Jerry Mueller, and Ryan DeStefano.

DeStefano continued his march forward, passing Freimund for second as Blawat maintained his lead. Behind the leaders, Steve Apel and Alex Prunty continued to battle intensely for position and once again the caution flag appeared when Apel’s car looped around in turn two as the end result of their hard racing. Blawat chose the inside for the restart and as racing resumed, DeStefano charged from the outside in a strong bid for the lead. After two laps of side by side racing, DeStefano cleared Blawat for the top spot with Freimund remaining within striking distance. Behind the top three, Dave McCardle and Jerry Mueller were disputing the fourth position with a door to door battle. On lap 28, McCardle and Mueller slid together in turn two, causing both to fall back as their damaged cars limped around the track with the caution waving when both slowed in turn four. DeStefano led Blawat and Freimund for the restart with Zack Riddle now moving into fourth place in front of Vanoskey in fifth. DeStefano was on his marks as the green flag waved and he raced into the lead, leaving Freimund and Riddle to fight over second. DeStefano pulled away slightly in the final laps as Riddle pressured Freimund over second. DeStefano drove to the win as Freimund turned back a strong challenge from Riddle to finish second. Jake Vanoskey crossed the stripe in fourth place as Jon DeAngelis finished a strong race in fifth place. Earlier, Steve Apel captured top honors in the late model fast dash and Zack Riddle was the fastest qualifier with a lap of 12.444 seconds.
SLM Semi Feature Winner Rob BraunJames Swan found victory lane once again in the 30-lap Midwest sportsman feature event after pacing the second half of the race.
John Janssen and Andy Haver raced for the lead in the opening laps with Janssen holding onto the top spot while Ryan Farrell and James Swan followed close behind. Janssen’s car became loose off the corners and on lap ten, it washed up the track in front of Haver, who couldn’t avoid contact which sent Janssen’s car spinning to produce the caution flag. Both Janssen and Haver were sent to the rear of the field for the restart as Farrell inherited the lead over Swan with Scott Shambeau and Mike Borchardt lining up behind them. Farrell and Swan battled door to door as racing resumed with Farrell on the inside and Swan in the high lane. Farrell was able to ease ahead at the line to lead the next four laps before Swan found power in the upper groove and he cleared Farrell to take the lead on lap 15. As Farrell tried to catch Swan for the top spot, Dan Church sliced his way from his final row starting position to move into the top three late in the event. Swan could not be caught in the final laps and he drove to the win over Farrell while Church finished a strong third. Scott Shambeau and Jack Stern finished fourth and fifth respectively. Mike Borchardt won the Midwest sportsman fast dash and James Swan set fast time at 12.755 seconds.
SLINGER11 15: Thunder Stock Winner Andy WelterAndy Welter took top honors in the 20-lap Thunderstock feature event, holding off John Daley for the win.
Daley took command of the race from the beginning laps as he battled with Ken Schraufnagel and Nathan Fick for the top spot with Andy Welter and Brad Hetzel in fourth and fifth. The leaders caught a slower car on lap seven and as they attempted to avoid the traffic, Schraufnagel came out on the losing end of the situation after suffering damage as the result of contact with another car during the scramble to get around the slower machine. With Schraufnagel out of the event, Daley led Fick, Welter and Hetzel while Tyler Schley and Carl Benn raced for fifth. Welter worked his way around Fick for second and began to chase Daley for the lead as the race laps began to wind down. Welter’s car was hooked up on the outside and he caught Daley, moving next to the leader in the outside groove on lap 12. After a few laps of side by side racing, Welter edged ahead and into the lead while Brad Hetzel began to track down Daley for second. Welter drove the final laps unchallenged and charged to the win as Daley and Hetzel staged a side by side battle for second on the final lap with Daley taking the spot by less than a car length at the finish. Nathan Fick and Rick Schaefer rounded out the top five finishers. Carl Benn won the Thunderstock fast dash and Brad Hetzel was the fastest qualifier with a lap of 13.578 seconds.
Slinger Bee Winner Nick WagnerNick Wagner captured the victory in the Slinger Bee 20-lap feature, driving to a convincing win over Derrick Dixon and Brittiny Helmers. Brandon Tackes finished fourth and Daniel Schroeder took the checkered flag in fifth. Erica Knutson was the winner of the 12-lap Slinger Bee semi-feature over Braison Bennett and Misty Benn. Alexis Strobel and Zack Welter were fourth and fifth respectively. Derrick Dixon won the Slinger Bee fast dash and Nick Wagner continued his hot streak in qualifying by breaking his own track record to become the fastest qualifier at 15.276 seconds. Chad Kiefer was the winner of the Westbury Bank Speedway Guest Car race and the Spectator Eliminator race was won by a mystery driver in a Subaru. Willy Van Camp won the Figure 8 race that concluded with a meeting in the “X” between second place finisher Shane Becker and Russ Lorbiecki. All drivers emerged from the incident without injury.
