Slinger, Wis., June 21—Driving a different car than the one he wheeled last Sunday, Dennis Prunty found himself in victory lane at the Slinger Super Speedway for the second week in a row after besting a strong field in the 65-lap super late model feature on PMF Landscape Supply Scout Night.
“We got the car pretty close and this is the Pete Wiedmeyer owned car,” Prunty said after climbing out of the #22 machine he has piloted for most of the season, “We are trying to get this car perfect for the Slinger Nationals and we’ll just keep tweaking on it each week.”
A few new faces were in the field as many area drivers have shown up to gain experience on the Slinger high banks in preparation for the upcoming Nationals event and one of those new faces was Ty Majewski who battled Prunty in the late stages before eventually finishing second. Majewski’s second place run was impressive considering he had to make the main event field through the semi-feature and began the race far back in the starting lineup.
“My car was real free underneath Dennis (Prunty) and I had to catch it“ Majewski said afterward, “We struggled in qualifying and had to make the race through the semi-feature but we were able to capitalize on a few other’s misfortunes and come home with a second place finish.”
John DeAngelis drove forward from his thirteenth starting position to finish a strong third while defending super late model track champion Steve Apel rebounded from an early spin to take the checkered flag in fourth. Jeff Holtz rounded out the top five finishers but was later disqualified after failing post race technical inspection. Dale Prunty crossed the finish line in sixth place followed by Rob Braun in seventh and Travis Dassow in eighth while Rich Loch and Josh Wallace rounded out the top ten.
Matt Koucerek battled Natalie Decker to pace the opening six laps before Decker worked the inside lane to take command of the race on lap seven. Decker remained out front until lap 32 when Prunty was able to drive by for good. Decker raced in the top five for the first half of the race before becoming involved in one of the event’s four caution periods while battling with Dassow for second on lap 38 and eventually finished 13th.
Jeff Holtz won the 30-lap super late model semi-feature as he transferred into the main event along with Ty Majewski, Josh Wallace, and David McCardle who finished second, third, and fourth respectively. Nick Wagner was fifth. James Swan, Rich Loch, and Brad Keith all picked up super late model heat race wins and Steve Apel was the fastest qualifier with a lap of 11.432 seconds.
Al Stippich took the lead on lap 10 and turned back numerous challenges to win the 40-lap late model main event to score his first feature victory at Slinger in four years.
Jack Stern led the opening lap before Brian Holtz took over the top spot on lap two and held the lead until Stippich used the outside line to grab the lead on a restart following a caution flag on lap nine. Four more caution periods slowed the race and each time Stippich fended off different challengers as he remained out front before pulling away in the end to capture the victory. Jordan DeVoy advanced his way through the field to finish second with Ryan Zielski close behind in third. Alex Prunty and Mike Held were near the front for nearly the entire race and finished in fourth and fifth respectively.
Dan Jung won the late model semi-feature over Joe Bongiorno and Matt Rowe while Scott Patrick and Brittiny Helmers rounded out the top five. R.J. Braun scored his first career late model victory in the first late model heat race while Jerry Mueller picked up the checkered flag in the second heat race. Alex Prunty set fast time with a lap of 12.279 seconds.
Nick Egan held off Andy Welter to score his second feature win of the season in the Area Sportsman 30-lap main event. Paul Wagner completed a strong race with a third place finish while Adam Peschek and Josh Fehrmann rounded out the top five. Welter picked up the win in the Area Sportsman heat race and Bill Prietzel circled the speedway in 13.069 seconds to become the division’s fastest qualifier.
Jacob Schraufnagel won the 25-lap Slinger Bee feature over Heather Stark and Brandon Tackes while Nick Schmidt and Tom Berens rounded out the top five. Brandon Berens won the Singer Bee semi-feature to transfer to the main event along with Rick Schaefer, E.J. Waldron, and Jayden Buckley in second, third, and fourth. Jacob Hasler was fifth. Slinger Bee heat race victories went to Marty Tackes, E.J. Waldron, and Heather Stark while Brandon Tackes was the fastest qualifier with a lap of 14.764 seconds.
Derek Doerr won the American Super Cup 15-lap feature over Andy Forster and Chris Deren. Ken Jones and Mick Ellis rounded out the top five. Doerr also won the American Super Cup heat race and set fast time as well with a lap of 15.428 seconds.
Nathan Larson drove is yellow Mustang to the win in the Spectator Eliminator races and Joe Mueller picked up the win in the Figure 8 race.
