ALEX PRUNTY WINS LABOR DAY WEEKEND SPECIAL AS APEL SECURES HIS 7TH TRACK CHAMPIONSHIP AT SLINGER
SlingerSuperSpeedway | September 6th 2026 Sunday | Labor Day Weekend Special

Slinger, Wis., Sept 6—Alex Prunty moved to the lead when the front two cars tangled on a restart with 25 laps to go and never looked back as he drove to victory in the IBEW Local 494 Labor Day Weekend 92-lap Incredible Bank Super Late Model feature Sunday night at the Slinger Speedway.

Prunty and Steve Apel came into the evening trailing point leader Gabe Sommers in the battle for the 2026 Super Late Model Track Championship and all three drivers had strong runs as the main event got underway. Sommers appeared to have the most dominant car as he charged from the ninth starting position to take the lead from early leader Dennis Prunty on lap 49 while Alex Prunty and Steve Apel also moved into the top five behind Dennis Prunty and Brad Mueller. Sommers pulled away to a commanding lead and appeared to be on his way to his first track championship when the caution flag waved when Dennis Prunty spun in front of Mueller off turn four with 25 laps to go. Sommers chose the outside lane for the restart leaving the inside to Mueller while Alex Prunty and Apel also chose the outside lane behind Sommers. As the field took the green flag, the cars of Mueller and Sommers came together on the frontstretch and slammed into the turn one wall, knocking both drivers out of the race and ending Sommers championship hopes.

Alex Prunty took over the lead as racing resumed and he drove away over the final laps to secure the victory as Jeff Storm turned in his best Slinger performance of the season with a solid second place result. Steve Apel finished in third place, which was enough to secure his seventh track championship by a single point over Sommers and just four points ahead of Alex Prunty. R.J. Braun finished a strong fourth place in the main event ahead of Jesse Bernhagen in fifth and Mitchell Haver in sixth. James Swan finished seventh and Dennis Prunty was eighth as Cody Vanderloop and Jerry Mueller completed the top ten finishers in ninth and tenth respectively. The 92-lap race distance was in honor of Conrad Morgan who made his final super late model start and retired after a legendary 60-year career.

Jesse Bernhagen was the winner of the super late model fast dash and super late model heat races were won by Willie Nelson and Mitchell Haver. Gabe Sommers blistered the speedway in 11.119 seconds and was the evening’s fastest qualifier.

Evan Hassler held off Jon Reynolds Jr. to win the 50-lap Uptown Motor Cars feature. Ryan Weyer finished in third place and Mike Held took the checkered flag in fourth ahead of Zach Prunty in fifth. Ryan Gutknecht was the sixth-place finisher and Tyler Hromadka was seventh ahead of Colton Morgan in eighth and Jerry Eckhardt in ninth. Del Schuler finished tenth. Jake Vanoskey and Mitch DelCamp were the winners of the late model heat races and Evan Hassler was the fastest qualifier with a qualifying lap time of 11.968 seconds.

Jason Stark drove Madison Boreen’s car to the win in the 35-lap Raceway Bar and Grill 602 Crater feature over Tanner Berge and Jordan DeVoy who finished second and third respectively. John DeAngelis Jr. finished fourth and secured the track championship for the 602 Crater division. Michael Lange finished fifth. Mike Hanson won the 602 Crater heat race and Jordan DeVoy set fast time with a qualifying lap time of 12.103 seconds.

Marty Tackes finished third while Travis Kreuser and Owen Benn were fourth and fifth respectively. Brian Stanczyk was sixth followed by Matthew Wandrey in seventh and Nathan Lemberger in eighth.
