FENHAUS WINS THE CARL WEGNER MEMORIAL AT SLINGER
Luke Fenhaus won the Carl Wegner Memorial Incredible Bank Super Late Model feature at Slinger Speedway, leading from lap 60 to beat Alex Prunty and Jesse Bernhagen. This $7,000 event was part of the Triple Crown series; additional victors were Carl Benn, John DeAngelis and Camden Grommes.
Slinger, Wis., Aug 2— Luke Fenhaus took the lead on lap 60 of the 100-lap Carl Wegner Memorial Incredible Bank Super Late Model feature and drove to victory over Alex Prunty Sunday night at the Slinger Speedway.
“A lot of work has gone into our race cars and we rebuilt both of them,” Fenhaus told the crowd from victory lane, “I’m so happy for my dad and all the guys that spent the last two weeks fixing them and getting them ready to go.”
“A lot of the guys were good early on and I just struggled,” Fenhaus continued, “I just had to find my balance and the car would tighten up on the restarts so I just had to adjust what I was doing a little better and it panned out and I got out front and ran some good laps.”
Alex Prunty led laps in the middle stages of the race and finished a strong second while early lap leader Jesse Bernhagen finished in third. Steve Apel was fourth and Ty Majeski survived an earlier tangle in lapped traffic to finish fifth. Jeff Storm finished in the sixth position and R.J. Braun was seventh after trading the lead early on with Bernhagen. Brad Mueller finished in eighth place ahead of Mitchell Haver and Grant Griesbach in ninth and tenth respectively.
The event was the second round of the Super Late Model Triple Crown at the speedway and paid $7,000 to win. With two of the three rounds complete, Ty Majeski leads the Triple Crown standings over Steve Apel by 11 points and Gabe Sommers by 31 points. Sommers maintains the season long Super Late Model track championship standings lead by just 9 points over Alex Prunty.
Alex Prunty won the Super Late Model fast dash while heat race victories were recorded by Chris Pulera and Jeff Storm. Gabe Sommers was the fastest qualifier after turning in a lap time of 11.091 seconds.
The Finish Line Bar and Grill Slinger Bees contested the second round of their Twin Bee Challenge and Carl Benn was the winner of the 25-lap feature. Mason Wilcott finished second and Dominic Matts was third. Al Strobel and Marty Tackes completed the top five finishers in fourth and fifth respectively. Owen Benn finished sixth and Todd Snow was seventh. Ricky Gebhard finished eighth ahead of Dylan Roberts in ninth and Nathan Lemberger in tenth. Slinger Bees heat races were won by Ricky Gebhard and Carl Benn while Brian Stanczyk set fast time with a lap of 15.044 seconds.
John DeAngelis won the Raceway Bar and Grill 602 Crater 30-lap main event over Michael Lange and Dan Thomson. Danny Church was fourth and Alex Ruedinger was fifth. The 602 Crater heat race was won by Michael Lange and John DeAngelis was the fastest qualifier with a qualifying lap of 12.130.
Camden Grommes won the 25-lap American Super Cup feature over Oliver Cummings and Bobby Stanley. Lindsey Herwald finished fourth and Greg Stanley was fifth. American Super Cup heat races were won by Charlie Schuler and Makayla Hall while Camden Grommes was the fastest qualifier after timing in at 14.994 seconds.
Bill Shavlik held off Russ Lorbiecki and Ryan Lovald to win the Figure 8 main event to close out the evening in an event that featured an “Intersection Connection” between father-son competitors Shane Becker and Kendall Becker.
