Slinger, Wis., Sept 8—Evan Hassler won the 50-lap season ending Uptown Motor Cars Late Model feature while Jon Reynolds Jr. claimed the season championship Sunday afternoon at the Slinger Speedway.
Hassler raced with the frontrunners the entire event and originally appeared to finish second as he followed Jerry Mueller under the checkered flag. When Mueller’s car was found to be under weight in post-race technical inspection, Hassler was awarded the victory. Tyler Schley made a triumphant return to the Slinger high banks after several weeks away and finished a strong second while Penn Sauter turned in one of his best Slinger performances by finishing third. Championship contender Zach Prunty advanced from his ninth starting position to finish fourth while Ryan Gutknecht raced from his thirteenth starting spot to cross the finish line in fifth. Jon Reynolds Jr. held an eight point advantage in the season standings entering the feature and his sixth place result along with being the fastest qualifier was enough to clinch the Slinger Speedway Late Model track championship. Rick Reddig-Tackman finished seventh ahead of Brad Hetzel in eighth and Matt Urban in ninth. Simon Seyfert completed the top ten finishers in tenth.
At the start of the day, Tanner Berge and Dennis Prunty had aspirations of becoming the inaugural champion for the new 602 Crater division and while Berge won the battle in taking the victory in the 35-lap feature, Prunty won the war as his second-place finish was enough to crown him the division’s first track champion. Bill Prietzel celebrated his birthday with a third-place finish and fast qualifier honors while Rob Braun and John DeAngelis Jr. completed the top five finishers in fourth and fifth place respectively. Dan Thomson crossed the finish line in sixth place followed by Mitchell Strobel in seventh while Alex Lopacinski made his debut in Chris Ratajczyk’s car and finished eighth. Larry Johnson was ninth and Aaron Moyer was tenth. 602 Crater heat races were won by Bill Tandetzke and Dennis Prunty.
Nathan Lemberger was the winner of the 25-lap Slinger Bees feature over Cooper Bodendorfer and Todd Snow. Anthony Dorzok finished fourth and Misty Benn took the checkered flag in fifth. Ricky Gebhard and Jason Clope entered the day tied for the season championship and Gebhard’s seventh place finish earned him the season championship. Carl Benn won the 16-lap Slinger Bees bonus race over Todd Snow and Misty Benn. Kendall Becker finished fourth and Dylan Lemberger was fifth. Carl Benn also was the fastest qualifier with a lap time of 15.211 seconds.
Rob Baaske held off JoJo Fadke to win the 25-lap American Super Cup feature. Gionvanni Sallee finished third ahead of Jon Kirsch and Nathan Feary in fourth and fifth respectively. JoJo Fadke and Rylee Baaske were the winners of the American Super Cup heat races and JoJo Fadke also set fast time in qualifying with a lap time of 14.816 seconds.
Jay Bozart won the 25-lap Upper Midwest Vintage Racing Series main event over Eric Melchior and Tim Lind. Tracey Prissell finished fourth and Tom Elsinger Sr. was fifth. Tim Lind was the winner of the Upper Midwest Vintage Racing Series heat race.
Scott Goetzke scored his 100th Figure 8 feature victory in thrilling fashion over Shane Becker and Ryan Lovald. Chad Snuggs finished fourth and Jim Ward was fifth. Goetzke’s victory also earned him the Figure 8 track championship.
Carl Trapp drove his 1972 Chevy Nova to the victory in the Spectator One-on-One races.
